From The Dance of the Seven Wigs
Lois Weaver is a performance artist, director, writer, teacher and curator with twenty years professional experience.
In 1980 she founded the now legendary Theatre company Split Britches who have since toured the U.S, UK and Europe with shows such as Upwardly Mobile Home; Little Women; Anniversary Waltz and Lesbians Who Kill.
Lois’s collaborations have included Dress Suits for Hire written by Holly Hughes, Belle Reprieve, co-created with Bloolips and Lust and Comfort, co-created with Gay Sweatshop.
Lois is also Co-founder, Director and Curator of wow - an OBIE award winning performance space in New York City.
Her work with wow has included producing international performance festivals in 1980 and 1981, devising and directing St. Joan of Avenue C (1985) and Queer Justice (1990).
Lois’ solo performance work has included hosting Gay Sweatshop / It’s Queer Up North performance platform event cLUB dEVIANCE (1996), a recent U.S and UK tour of her one-woman show Faith and Dancing.
Lois is a graduate (Theatre Arts and Education) of Radford University.
Lois has taught Contemporary Performance Practice at the California Institute of Arts and has been a lecturer at Queen Mary and Westfield College since 1997, also in Contemporary Performance Practice.
